The i-MiEV (An acronym for Innovative Mitsubishi Electric Vehicle) is expected in US markets in fall of 2011. It is a distinctive 4-door compact that's been tailored to be ultra-efficient. Mitsubishi expects that the i-MiEV will cost about $30,000 prior to state and federal tax incentives.
The i-MiEV uses a lithium-ion battery pack, and a 63-horsepower electric motor that is rated at 133 lbs per foot of torque. Like
most electric cars, the i-MiEV's initial pickup from 0-30 intown is
impressive, but the 0-60 acceleration rate is a little slower due to the
weight of the battery and engine.
Depending on driving style, and whether you run the air conditioning, the i-MiEV is predicted to run for about 100 miles on a single charge. It can be charged at home, but at a 110/115 volt circuit, it will take 14 hours, so you want to charge it overnight. By upgrading to a 220-volt circuit in the garage, the i-MiEV can be charged in about 7 hours.
Also like most electric cars, the manufacturer does not intend that theirs should be the only car in a family, but one option among others for low-cost, low-emission commuting and errands close to home.
